Summer is finally here and we are starting to experience the sun that we have all been waiting for. However, it is typical of us Brits to complain that it is too hot when we finally get the weather we have been moaning about missing all year! It is alright for the men who enjoy their perfectly short hair or shaved heads, but for us ladies, we want to protect our luscious locks but then have to suffer in the heat! Therefore, so many celebrities these days are turning to short crops or the more daring pixie cut.
Probably the most famous to cut off her “girl-next-door” locks lately, in a complete image transformation, is twerking queen Miley Cyrus. She even makes her cut that little bit more edgy by allowing her dark roots to grow out and then having bleach blonde tips. At first she shocked the nation with this new look, but now so many “rock” girls have adopted this look.
On the other end of the spectrum is the gorgeous Charlize Theron, who carries her look extremely sophisticatedly. Her stunning performance at the Oscars was what has given so many women the confidence to turn to a short crop for the summer.
Even Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence posted a picture on Instagram of her new look when she decided to cut off her gorgeous locks. We still have that amazing image of her in that stunning dress “catching fire” displaying her beautiful long curls. That is no longer and she is rocking some kind of bob.
All these women have clearly taken inspiration from those who have been sporting the short look for many years now. Probably one of the most iconic is Halle Berry, who already had this look when she was a Bond girl and has recently “updated” the style to more of an up-do. Jennifer Hudson was said to have taken inspiration from Halle when styling her look last year.
Anne Hathaway had to cut her fabulously long hair we remember her having in The Devil Wears Prada, for her performance in Les Miserables last year and she has kept the look since. We also can’t forget the iconic looks of Rihanna and Victoria Beckham, who first started wearing a pixie around the time she was transforming into a fashion designer and wanted to lose her “Posh Spice” brand. However, and possibly rather unfortunately, her haircut started to be nicknamed “The Poxie” due to this.
I think that my favourites over the last couple of years have to be those of Emma Watson and Michelle Williams. Emma has successfully shied away from her Hermione image and pulled off a stunningly sophisticated look that has almost become quintessentially British. Michelle’s cut is not only a favourite because she simply looks great, but because of the reason behind it. She told a British magazine that she “…cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it”. She was talking about her ex-love Heath Legder. RIP Heath – we miss you.
Remember, smooth hair does not necessarily mean long hair so if you are looking for ways to stay cool this summer, why not try a short crop or if you are feeling more daring, a pixie? You have so many gorgeous pixie crop celebrity styles to take inspiration from, so go on, give it a go!
